Today we’re delighted to announce that Bethnal Green Ventures has been acquired by impact-focused investment management firm Connected Asset Management. We are incredibly excited about the step-change this represents not only for BGV but also the future of tech for good.Founded by Darren Agombar, Connected’s vision is to empower pension funds to build a better world through impact investing. With the UK pension market alone totalling £3 trillion, the opportunity for pension funds to accelerate positive change is huge. BGV’s move to join the Connected group will allow pension funds to invest in the high-growth opportunity in tech for good, placing BGV at the forefront of managing these allocations.
Darren Agombar says: “We are delighted to announce our partnership with the brilliant BGV. Venture capital and growth equity is transforming society and building the high growth companies of the future. By bringing BGV into the Connected group, pension savers can now also benefit from the high returns that investing in these firms can offer over the longer term whilst helping to deliver positive social and environmental change."
BGV will remain an independently operated firm and very little will change for our existing team, founders, mentors, partners and investors. However the move will markedly strengthen and increase BGV’s investment capabilities moving forward.
Evita Zanuso, Senior Director of Financial Sector and Investor Engagement at Big Society Capital says: “BGV’s growth has been significant in developing the tech for good ecosystem, and we are proud to have played a role in supporting the BGV team. This is an important milestone for BGV and Connected Asset Management, and has significant potential to enable further scale and impact by unlocking pension fund investments into impactful businesses. Also exciting is its potential to enable pension fund members to access investment opportunities in the tech for good space that have not been accessible to date.”
As a fellow B Corp, Connected is perfectly aligned with BGV’s principles and beliefs. Working with Connected puts BGV in a better position than ever to accelerate our mission to be the world’s best source of inspiration, investment and support for founders building technology ventures that will improve millions of lives.
BGV’s Chairman Giles Andrews says: “I am absolutely delighted for Paul, Melanie and the BGV team that they will be able to continue their fantastic work in supporting tech for good at greater scale as part of the Connected family. I have been most impressed with Darren’s vision so am very happy to pass stewardship on to him and look forward to watching the next chapters from the side-lines as they advance their lead in this important sector.”
